Frequently Asked Questions:
What does The Jeweller’s Box Company specialise in?
The Jeweller's Box Company specialises in bespoke handmade leather packaging, alongside a curated selection of standard jewellery boxes. Everything is made by artisans in Bangladesh using traditional methods, creating leather boxes that are versatile, reusable, and long lasting.
How are your leather boxes produced?
All JBC Collection, Stock Box Offer, and bespoke items are handmade by dedicated artisans in Bangladesh using traditional vegetable tanning on sheep or goat skins—sustainably sourced as by-products of the local food industry.
Each individual piece undergoes rigorous quality control in our London office before dispatch, ensuring consistently high standards and flawless finish.
Premium Italian linings are used throughout for luxurious interiors. This eco-friendly tanning process (vs chemical methods) minimises environmental impact while providing fair income and education opportunities for artisan communities since the late 1980s—crafting versatile, reusable, heirloom-quality leather packaging.
Do you offer a standard range as well as bespoke?
Yes. There is a 'standard' range of packaging developed to cover most jewellers' requirements, with sizes, colours, linings, and prices detailed in an information pack. Many box styles can be used for different jewellery pieces by interchangeable inserts.

Yes—existing JBC Collection and Stock Box Offer boxes/accessories can be personalised (logos via blind emboss/stamping/printing, limited colour changes) but follow the same bespoke process: initial consultation, material/colour selection, artwork submission (clear black-on-white PDF/JPG), 4-6 week sampling with signed specs, final approval, then 6-8 week production post-50% deposit.
What design choices do I need to make for bespoke packaging?
Choose box shape (square/rectangle, rounded square, cushion-shaped oval/round), leather colour (standard: black/brown/dark red/navy/burgundy; 10% surcharge: fuchsia/royal blue/aqua/emerald; 15%: Pantone/orange/tan/natural), lining colour (light fabrics 10% surcharge), logo size/placement.
Do you supply outer cardboard boxes?
No—we do not supply cardboard outer boxes as they are very expensive to make in small quantities. Items are normally packed according to size in cellophane outers to protect the products during shipping. Should you require individual cellophane packing (for gift items, for example), please specify this on your order.
How does logo branding work?
We specialise in blind embossing (raised embossing)—standard prices include one blind-embossed logo per item. Each embossed surface requires its own metal block.
Anything different—stamping, gold/silver blocking, screen printing—is available on request and quoted separately.
Are samples required before bespoke packaging production?
Yes—all bespoke products must be sampled first and fully approved before production. Production-error alterations re-sampled free; client-requested design changes after agreement may incur sampling costs.
Can I see different colour combinations in samples?
Yes—we can sample half the set in one colour-way/leather/lining combination and the other half in a second combinationso you can compare real items before making your final decision.
Extra cost applies for this split sampling service.
Shipping and duties?
Shipping costs are automatically calculated at checkout based on total order weight and destination (UK/EU deliveries typically 2-3 days fastest; worldwide tracked service standard).
No customs duties apply for deliveries within UK or EU. For other territories, please check your local import regulations/tax agency—duties may apply based on value/destination.
Items ship in protective cellophane packaging sized to each product (individual cellophane wrapping available on request for gift items). No outer cardboard boxes supplied—these must be sourced separately for retail presentation as they're cost-prohibitive in small trade quantities.

How should I care for the leather boxes?
Upon receipt: Immediately unpack from protective cellophane wrapping.
Storage: Keep in acool, dry place away from direct sunlightto prevent colour fading.
Avoid: Extreme moisture, dry air, sudden heat/cold changes, or air conditioning condensation (may cause temporary whitish polish bloom—wipe off with soft dry cloth).
Surface care: Glazed leather finish scratches irreparablybut naturally softens and develops beautiful patinawith use over time.
Clean only with soft dry cloth—never use leather creams, polishes, or liquids.
Do colours vary or change?
Yes—due to the natural vegetable tanning process, leather colours may vary slightly from photos/catalogues (no two skins identical).
During bespoke/JBC selection, we advise on light-sensitive shades (typically vibrant colours like fuchsia/aqua) that may darken or shift subtly with prolonged direct sunlight exposure.
This characteristic creates each box's unique personality and develops a desirable, individual patina over time—transforming into heirloom-quality pieces that improve with age and use.
