Our journey began with inspiration from the United Nations Decade for Women (1975-85), when three visionary women—including current Managing Director Claire Weldon—founded Ambika Ltd in London in 1986.
Driven by empowerment, they connected women in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Chile, and Bangladesh to global markets, transforming ancestral skills into sustainable livelihoods through exquisite handmade treasures: fine jewellery, woven baskets, vibrant textiles, and Nakshi Kantha—the timeless, hand-embroidered quilts born from Bengal's rich heritage.
By 1988, wisdom guided a strategic pivot: greater impact lay in specialization and one cherished region. Ambika honed in on Bangladesh, championing Nakshi Kantha, sumptuous leather goods, and authentic local artifacts.
